Blast from the Past – A River Runs Through It

Nick Lyons reviewed a novel in the 1976 mid season issue of Fly Fisherman. That novel was A River Runs Through It and Other Stories. The review shared some of my favorite quotes:

“there was no clear line between religion and fly fishing”

“He told us about Christ’s disciples being fishermen, and we were left to assume, as my brother and I did, that all first-class fishermen on the Sea of Galilee were fly fisherman and that John, the favorite, was a dry-fly fisherman”

My favorite portion of the review was Mr. Lyons summary of the book:

“Maclean’s book is surely destined to be one of those rare memoirs that can be called a masterpiece; if I am not far wrong, it will become on of the best loved and most often quoted autobiographical ‘fictions’ in the literature of angling.”

Did he also know the “best loved” book will become one of the best loved and most hated movie of angling?
