Costco and The Macallan – 18 year old

Twenty years ago, The Macallan distillery had excess capacity, creating more whisky than they could bottle and sell. So, they sold their excess whisky to independent bottlers. Eventually, Costco acquired some and are currently selling bottles of 18 year old single malt whisky from the Macallan distillery for $60 a bottle. This compares to $140 for a bottle of whisky from The Macallan brand.
