PBS aired a report Friday called Trout and Drought. This report examines the relationship between global warming and the Montana trout fisheries. I thought the report was informative, featuring interviews with fly fishing guides, farmers, and politicians.
A couple of key points:
- A longer summer drought increases water temperatures, which we know is not good for trout
- Trout fishing brings $300 million to the Montana economy. Agriculture $2.4 billion. This answers one of my frustrations, water management that optimizes for agriculture.
