Fly Pattern: Woven Wire Weevil

September 16th, 2009 · 3 Comments

Weaving was a difficult process for me to learn. Or, I should phrase that in the present tense, I’m still learning the technique. Here is a 2-fer: a demonstration of the weaving process – which allows you to tie flies with light bottoms and dark tops, and a heavy, spark-plugish, fly to get down deep.

You can tie 2 to the n variations of this pattern, where n equals the colors in the Uni-wire catalog.  My only tweak to this pattern would be a drop of epoxy or knot-sense over the flash back.

Thanks for posting this one, I plan to tie some of these up for sure. I’m also looking at that wire weaving with a few ideas of my own, excellent.
