Battle of the Burgers

November 27th, 2009 · 1 Comment

While many are out there fighting the black Friday crowds, I’m fighting a different battle. The battle of the black arteries, caused by participating in a vigorous scientific study to find the best fast food burger.

East meets West (in my belly) in this matchup with ketchup.  In this corner weighing in with 220 locations in 5 states, representing the west is In-N-Out Burger.

And in this corner, coming from the east, with 440 locations,  is Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

First, the similarities. Both feature a sparse menu, mainly burgers (duh) and fries.  Both have simple, fresh ingredients and fries cut from whole potatoes. They are remarkably similar in appearance, white tile walls with red accents.

The differences are pretty slight. Five Guys starts you with a naked burger and you can add any topping you want. In-N-Out starts with lettuce, tomato, and their secret sauce, and your main option is onion or no onion (though they do have a secret menu). Five Guys burgers are larger than In-N-Out, about a third pound per patty; probably the same amount of meat in a Double-Double.

Five guys gives you a side of peanuts. In-N-Out features milk shakes. Both will make your cardiologist wealthy.

A scientific poll, conducted by me, with a voting population of 4 family members was unanimous.

In-N-Out is the tastiest burger in fastfoodom.

Five Guys is in its own category and is far and away better than In N Out. In N Out rules the QSR industry compared to BK, McD’s, and such.
Five Guys is Numero Uno in the quick casual and their food is GOURMET!!!
